Drones:  The Good, The bad, and the controversial

A Panel Discussion Organized by Stein Sture, Vice Chancellor for Research; Professor of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering

Drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles, can be used for a wide variety of purposes, from searching for oil and gas to forest fire detection. However, most of us became aware of drones after they began to be used extensively in pursuing terrorist targets after September 11, 2001. Controversy now surrounds the use of drones by the military and the CIA, and concerns have also been expressed about their use domestically in, for example, police surveillance. This panel will examine both the technology behind drones and the issues related to their use.

11:00-11:50 a.m.

THE ELECTRONIC CLASSROOM:  MOOCs, FLIPPED CLASSES, LECTURE-CAPTURE, AND THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION

A Panel Discussion Organized by Michael Grant, Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education; Professor of Evolutionary and Ecological Biology

The digital revolution has come to the classroom as new technologies are impacting the way we teach and learn, and CU Boulder has been a leader in using technology to support instruction. Some have argued that these changes in the delivery of knowledge will utterly transform higher education, while others have remained more skeptical. This panel will explore the ways that technology is shaping the way our children learn.
